BellSouth Calls on Sprint IT Exec for CIO Post

Telecom Exec Named to New BellSouth CIO Position
ATLANTA - BellSouth Corp. has named Don G. Hallacy to be chief information officer for BellSouth's Domestic Operations group, a new position. The group includes all organizations involved in telecommunications for BellSouth's domestic retail and wholesale customers. He reports to Fran Dramis, BellSouth's CIO and e-commerce officer. Hallacy was previously president of technology services for Sprint, where he was in charge of domestic and international voice, data and Internet networks, as well as IT operations and long-distance information services. Earlier he was president of Sprint's Internet Services division. He was also CEO of Eltrax Systems Inc., from 1999 to 2000, and has worked for McKinsey & Co., GC Services and Andersen Consulting.

Novell CTO Ledbetter Promoted to SVP
PROVO, Utah - Novell Inc. has promoted its CTO Dr. Carl S. Ledbetter to senior vice president, engineering/research and development. Ledbetter will be responsible for all Novell engineering, research and development, as well as product management, worldwide. Ledbetter has been a Novell senior vice president since joining the company in 1999. Prior to coming to Novell, Ledbetter was president of AT&T Consumer Products, general manager of Sun Microsystems' PC networking business unit, chairman and chief executive officer at Hybrid Networks, and a director of the IBM Kingston laboratory. Earlier he was a of mathematics at Wellesley College and Clark University, academic dean at California State University, Sonoma, and served in the administration of Governor Brown in California.

Ryder Promotes CIO to SVP
MIAMI - Ryder System Inc. has promoted CIO Robert E. Sanchez to senior vice president of global transportation management and network integration. In his new role, he is responsible for the continuing growth and development of Ryder's global transportation management offerings for ground, rail, sea and air freight. Amkor CIO Chairs Semiconductor Industry Board
CHANDLER, Ariz. - Amkor Technology Inc.'s senior vice president and CIO Bill White has become chairman of the RosettaNet Semiconductor Manufacturing Board, an independent, nonprofit consortium working on automating key business processes in the semiconductor manufacturing trading network. Amkor, a contract manufacturer of microelectronics assembly and test solutions, is one of more than 400 member companies of the board. White has more than 35 years of IT industry experience in automotive, aerospace, health care, computer services, and semiconductors.

Former Federal CIO Named CEO of Aquilent
LAUREL, Md. - Aquilent, an IT company formed out of the management buyout of Commerce One e-Government Solutions, announced that IT veteran Paul Brubaker will be its CEO. Brubaker is former Department of Defense deputy CIO, responsible for major changes to many of the armed services' business and military processes, including personnel, logistics, finance and command control. Aquilent provides consulting, application development, design and application hosting services to many federal government organizations.
