Datamation 'Product of the Year' Awards Wrap-Up
It was a one-horse race in 'Datamation's Product of the Year' wireless category, with the Linksys WRT54G Router/Gateway grabbing 69% of the vote.
The remaining finalists almost evenly split the remainder of the votes. In second place was the EliteConnect 2.4GHz 802.11b High Power Wireless PC Card (SMC2532W-B) from SMC Networks followed by the Backpack wireless workgroup server from Micro Solutions, and the Max Wireless Conference Phone from ClearOne Communications.
Key to the Linksys router's success is competitive pricing, performance, and versatility. The WRT54G, for example, became the first high-speed wireless networking router to use the 802.11g standard. And it supports 802.11b and 802.11g, so you can keep your existing 802.11b gear and gradually migrate to wireless-G.

Datamation readers chose well when they voted Storage Technology's EchoView E400 into the top spot in the storage category of our annual 'Product of the Year Awards'.
The data protection appliance easily beat out its closest competitors, but Sun's StorEdge 3510 Fibre Channel Array came in a strong second and BacBone Software grabbed third place with its NetVault 7.
Storage Technology's EchoView E400 swept the field largely because of its ability to provide fast data recovery, eliminate backup windows and increase availability.

At a time when viruses are trying to penetrate network perimeters on an almost daily basis, security has never been more critical. To make matters worse, blended threats -- a combination of hacking, denial-of-service, and worm-like propagation -- can rapidly compromise millions of machines.
Consequently, network security managers have been forced to consider more comprehensive strategies and solutions that can be implemented quickly and easily across the network.
To that end, Datamation readers made Integrity 4.0 from Zone Labs their top pick in the security category of this year's 'Product of the Year Awards'. Gateway Security 5460 from Symantec placed second, followed by Securify SecurVantage 4.0 from Securify, FirewallAnalyzer Enterprise from eIQnetworks, and NetDetector from NIKSUN.
