Lindows.com Offers Antivirus ServiceLindows.com -- the San Diego operating system developer gunning for Microsoft -- Tuesday said an integrated antivirus service is now available for its flagship software, LindowsOS.
The service is one of many safeguards software firms have been cranking out since the Slammer worm plagued millions of computer systems worldwide last month. Convinced that Linux' popularity is enjoying a fast rise, Lindows.com claims the number of Linux viruses is low, but is sure to rise as shipments of desktop Linux systems like LindowsOS grow.
Dubbed VirusSafe, the cure comes in the form of Vexira Antivirus software for Linux workstation by software maker Central Command. Vexira monitors for viruses and other suspicious activity on hard disks, floppy disks and Net downloads.
VirusSafe is installed with one-click and features virus definitions that are updated automatically online during the term of service. It also has a virus scan scheduler, blocked access to infected files and repair options.
"Computer viruses are now a way of life for PC users on the Internet. We certainly recognize that and wanted to provide LindowsOS users with affordable virus protection which they can install with a single mouse click," said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com.
The Lindows antivirus service costs $29 per year.
